I can confidently say that throughout my journey in theatre studies and various workshops, I have never encountered an instructor who has helped me take my craft to a level of depth and complexity that goes beyond the ordinary. Pascal embodies the art of cultivating excellence, paying meticulous attention to detail and infusing finesse into every performance.

  • “Starting classes with Pascal this year has been such a gift. I’m always looking to expand and train as an actor, even after being in the biz for 20 years. I’ve dipped my toe into Laban work previously but had a hard time accessing it all. In just two classes, Pascal’s approach to teaching Laban’s work has opened up so many doors of understanding in my body & mind and I’m excited to keep working with him. I’m already putting the practice to good use with characters I’m developing for auditions. Small class size, specific focus for each student, being held accountable to do the work - I eagerly recommend this class to anyone seeking to go further in their craft.

  • “I immediately started using the exercises I learned from Psycho-Physical 1 to my work. If you’re a fan of Stanislavski’s Method of Physical Action or Michael Chekhov’s Psychological Gestures or if you’re an actor who simply wants to physically move with purpose, heart and freedom - consider Pascal’s effective approach to psycho-physical. It’s an ‘out-the-box’ experience that will help you bridge the gap between you and your character.”

  • Pascal is an amazing person with a passion for helping others discover and uncover themselves. His voice is perfect for hypnosis as it evokes a sense of calm or serenity. I originally started working with Pascal to work on time management/procrastination and being hard on myself for not getting “it” all done at the end of the day. After only one session I could very noticeably feel the difference, and have continued to feel the difference. Pascal is able to tap straight into your programming, bypassing the logic/thinking brain, and getting to the heart of the issue. This allows for fundamental transformation, which I have received and continue to feel the benefit from. Pascal is very welcoming and very thorough in his evaluations and treatment plans. He takes the time to make sure you understand what is happening or going to happen, and that you feel 100% comfortable and safe at all times.

I give my highest recommendation for Pascal to anyone who is looking into hypnosis, has “tried everything and nothing works,” or would like to enjoy the benefits of profound inner transformation. It is truly life changing!*

  • “I’m so happy that I jumped at this class, listening is such an overlooked and ignored skill for an actor and I feel is that it is put to the wayside all too often in other acting classes… I’m absolutely (already) recommending this to my other actor friends if you ever offer it up again!” Tess (LA)

Psycho-Physical Acting

As an actor playing a character, I am always chasing that real-life instant connection between the body and the words that stream out on top; that real-life connection combined with an energy that can't be contained by a verb.

I think that for most of us, we know that the majority of our behavior is already triggered before the mind can find any words to describe or justify it. Therefore, using words to describe and bring forth the wordless, didn’t make sense. And for me, existing methods weren’t enough.

My Psycho Physical course delivers a practical approach to uncovering how behavior is driven by something pre-word, and applying that to character.

Laban for Actors and Voice actors

Laban is a movement classification system, that helps you understand and apply movement qualities as part an embodied acting approach to character creation.

This course differs from the more commonly offered academic or dance focused approaches. This is Laban for Actors. This course leads with the physical experience of the qualities first, before describing it with the Laban classification.

Laban has been part of my life for nearly 30 years and I am still learning and discovering new ways that it applies to me personally and professionally as an actor. I am pleased to be able to share this tool with other actors and performers around the world.

Listening

Many actors believe that listening is automatic and don't focus on it - that to focus on it risks truth. But why treat listening with any less attention than speaking?!- How you listen and why, and how you communicate what you are understanding from the person talking to you is a vital part of understanding character.

This short 3 hour course will draw on proven behavioral science to teach you the different kinds of listening and how to use them to refine your character choices and improve your acting.

“Pascal brings everything to his class, not afraid to put himself out there if it means helping his students learn. He is committed to making sure everyone understands and will take the time to speak with every student about what *they* need to get the most out of his class.” Sway, M.

“An ideal introduction for those who have never worked with Laban as well as those who know the basics but are curious about how to apply them…I highly recommend this course for any actor looking to deepen their physical awareness and especially to those working in motion or performance capture.” Amanda R.

“I’m so happy that I jumped at this class, listening is such an overlooked and ignored skill for an actor and I feel is that it is put to the wayside all too often in other acting classes." Tess, L

What is Laban Technique?

Laban working from the 1920’s as a dancer, choreographer and dance theorist, knew what modern science now proves on a regular basis - that the mind and body are inextricably linked - one affecting the other in a connected system - whether or not we are conscious of it.

Once you understand the principles from an experiential perspective, a new world opens up to you. Not only will you be able to believably behave as a greater range of characters/creatures, but this knowledge will be tied with, and affected by psychology and emotion.

What is Psycho-Physical Technique?

What is Psycho-physical?

The psycho-physical system is something I have developed over a more than a decade, after initially  testing it with friends and RADA alumni. I use it regularly in all the media I work in, but find it particularly useful for fast characterization for game, and deep emotional connection with characters I play in TV and film.  I found out recently the foundational principals have parallels with the Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor approach. As the effect of PBSP therapy is scientifically validated, I can happily state that my technique is evidence based! However, I keep away from therapy, and stick to character exploration and embodiment. For other frames of reference think of Michael Chekov’s Psychological gesture taken further…

This can tap into powerful stuff and can lead to powerful revelations. If you are triggered by our work you should cease taking the class. You will always have control over how far you dig.

Performing for Motion Capture

A guide for Practitioners

By John Dower and Pascal Langdale

Want to be the next Andy Serkis as Gollum in Lord of the Rings? Or Zoe Saldana in Avatar? How about Seth MacFarlane in Ted? Or do you want to star in video games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty or Halo?

If so, this book will tell you everything you need to know about acting for motion capture.

This is the first book to provide an invaluable resource for the education of the next generation of performers in this exciting medium. Over the last 10 years, a revolution has occurred in digital production - video games have overtaken the film and TV industries in terms of production and revenues. Many video games derive their digital animation from human performance by means of motion and performance capture. Actors such as Andy Serkis and Troy Baker have won critical acclaim for their digital performance in games and film.

The book includes contributions from practitioners working across the globe, including: actor Kezia Burrows; software developer Stéphane Dalbera; director Kate Saxon; a group of Japanese games directors; Jeremy Meunier, Head of Motion Capture at Moov studios, Montreal; Marc Morisseau, motion editor for Avatar; and a Chinese Motion Capture suit manufacturer.
